It’s Time to Go Boldly and Make Your Move, Putnam City Families!
Tomorrow is the big day. A new school year, a new era for Putnam City Schools, and we could not be more excited to kick it off with you. Our districtwide theme this year is “Make Your Move” and is creatively shown in many of our schools with fun board game-like displays and messaging. Embracing the theme, we are excited to team up together and strategically enter the school year, cheering for every win and working through any challenge.
Before the buses roll and the students fill the hallways, here are a few things to know:
Beating the Heat-
Oklahoma heat is strong this time of year, but we’re ready for it.
Elementary outdoor recess depends on the temperature. If the heat index at the school is above 95 degrees Fahrenheit (per the National Weather Service), recess will move indoors. Indoor recess will include movement and other fun enrichment activities. If the heat index is between 90 and 95 degrees, outdoor time is limited to 15-30 minutes or less.
To keep kids active and follow state requirements, some outdoor recess may move to earlier in the day, when it is cooler.
Athletics and fine arts play by a strict rulebook set by the OSSBA. Our coaches, directors, and sponsors use wet bulb globe temperature readers to check conditions before and during practices/rehearsals.
Send Your Kids Prepared-
Wear light-colored clothing.
Bring a water bottle.
Pack a jacket or sweatshirt in the backpack. Classrooms may be cold.
Get Plugged In-
Visit our Back-To-School Hub for everything you need to get ready for school.
Download the new “My Ride K-12” app to track bus routes and more!
Here’s to a bold new year, Putnam City! We’re all in. Let’s make it a great one!
Go Boldly,
